Chandrayaan-3, which means “moon ship” in Sanskrit, landed on the Moon on Wednesday August 23. India therefore achieves a feat, because it is the first moon landing on the south pole of the Moon. The country thus joins the very exclusive club of the major space powers, four years after a failed attempt, alongside the United States and Russia.
This mission takes place just days after Luna-25, the first probe to be launched by Russia to the Moon since 1976, crashed there. Chandrayaan-3, launched six weeks ago, was the slowest rocket to reach the Moon. The American manned Apollo missions of the 1960s and 1970s, which achieved this in a matter of days.
