On December 20 and 21 it will be performed at the Cartuja Center CITE (Sevilla), Cloudshand in hand with Paco Mir starting from its original version of Aristophanes. Piece that is part of this season’s programming at the Lope de Vega Theater.

Paco Mir He said about himself: “I I was going to be a Fine Arts student. (although in reality what I wanted was to draw comic strips) when I chanced upon the theater and, today, after hitting stages around the world for almost 40 years, creating eight works with TRICICLE, writing a lot, winning two Max awards, producing several television series, creating advertising campaigns and adapting and directing (with some success) more than fifty theater, zarzuela and opera titles, I still have the feeling that I am in the world of show by chance.

Just in case“I have never stopped drawing.”

As you well know, the comedies written and performed in Ancient Greece “threw” their peculiar characters into situations where more than one would say that they were trying to “force reality.” Of course, all of this with a spirit as playful as it was one of social and political criticism of what its creators found around them. And just the case of Aristophanes, It is the most paradigmatic and useful to introduce yourself to a way of thinking and doing theater.

In this line, Clouds has become a refreshing and sharp testimony that has enlightened historians, philosophers…, about the figure of Socrates outside the context of Plato’s dialogues. Works in which he is presented as a sort of “superhero philosopher”, and it is difficult to distinguish exactly what things he said and what happened to him, having been so exalted. Aristophanes is so far from the above that he presented Socrates as a sophist. Without further ado, I give you the synopsis of this version of Clouds by Paco Mir:

The Clouds” premiered in 423 BC and is considered, except by Socrates, the best of Aristophanes’ comedies. Its central theme is the open criticism of the Socratic school and the plot develops a theme that, twenty centuries later, is still very topical: the complicated and inexhaustible relationships between parents and children.

The story is very simple: STREPSÍADES, who is on the road to ruin because of the debts of his lazy son, decides to enroll in Socrates’ school to learn rhetoric, an art with which he tries to convince his creditors that things They are not as they seem to be and, in reality, you do not owe them anything. Given his inability to study, he forces his son to take rhetoric classes and he learns so well and so quickly that it would make his life impossible.

The Clouds is a criticism against the tyranny of children and against all those pedants who want to make us commune with millstones who, in this work, are represented by Socrates and Chaerephon, two intimate enemies of Aristophanes himself.
