Based on the successful story in audio format, Martin and Xabier Etxeberria have released the comic book ‘Archipelagoa’ in collaboration with illustrator Alex Sanvi. Published by Elkar publishing house.

In the not-too-distant future, after the catastrophe brought about by climate change, most of the Basque Country is under water, and the little that remains above water are the former mountain peaks, which today form a kind of archipelago, and life is not easy, nor are relationships. Archipelago podcast fiction, which after its success in audio format has now made the jump to comics.

This is not the first collaboration between brothers Xabier and Martin Etxeberria. Aurez wrote the children’s literature story ‘The smell of winter is noticeable in the air’ (1999, Erein) and won the Lizardi Prize. Since then, as a creative tandem, they have written numerous works together.

The first in the narrative was in 2004, ‘Wait for me at Cafe de Passy’, followed by ‘Ez dajdila soljaia siarte’ (2006), ‘The fish of the abyss’ (2009) and ‘The secret of the tough man’ (2015), all by Elkar. In children’s literature, there are fifteen titles published in collaboration, the above-mentioned debut and Pako Fakir (2002), ‘Anaiak empetente aqueu’ (2002), ‘Pako Fakir and Zokomokordo’ (2006), ‘Argitxo kriseilua bila’ (2007), ‘Argitxo and the Vikings’ (2007), ‘Argitxo and the puffy toad’ (2007), ‘Argitxo and grandfather Melxor’s rattles’ (2007), ‘I have grandfather’s teeth’ (2008), ‘Moro the cat (2010), ‘Ttip and Ttup (2010), ‘Asto lehoia’ (2010), ‘The blind man and the tailor’ (2010) and ‘Grandmothers champion’ (2010).

In addition to these, each of the two brothers has published several works on their own, Martin more in poetry and Xabier in the novel. The first has already released five collections, the last one ‘Kangaroo’, in a way the continuation of the poetry work ‘Winston’ published in 2018; the second one has four books: ‘Egun denac ez deira brendh’ (2001), which won the Igartza Award, ‘Uzazkeneko lorea’ (2012), ‘Eman amore’ (2015) and ‘If it came back again’ (2017), which won the Zubikarai Award.
