A recent study published in “BMJ Nutrition Prevention & Health” has shed light on the connection between diet and the severity of corona symptoms. Researchers from several universities in Mexico examined the daily diet of 236 patients, 103 of whom tested positive for corona, over a period of three months. The results were surprising, showing a correlation between certain food intake and the severity of corona symptoms.
The study found that individuals who consumed legumes, grains, and grain products more frequently experienced milder corona symptoms compared to those who did not. On the other hand, the intake of milk, dairy products, and fats and oils did not show a significant influence on the severity of the symptoms.
“This study shows how nutritional management can support vaccination in keeping corona symptoms as low as possible,” said Claudia Lerma, a co-author of the study. “The study results also provide a basis for a nutritional plan for those who are in close contact with Covid-19 patients.”
The findings of the study have raised questions about the role of diet in preventing a severe course of corona. With the ongoing threat of the Omicron variant, which poses a challenge to current vaccines, understanding the impact of diet on corona symptoms becomes increasingly important.
In addition to the study, research from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the US has indicated that being overweight can double the risk of dying from Covid-19. This highlights the need for a holistic approach to tackling the pandemic, including the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle.
As the world continues to grapple with the challenges posed by the pandemic, understanding the various factors that can influence the severity of corona symptoms, including diet, becomes essential in managing and controlling the spread of the virus.]
