The objective, the Government Delegation has highlighted, is to raise awareness about the risks of alcohol and drug consumption while driving, factors that, they recall, are present in a third of fatal accidents, as a concurrent or causative factor. These data emerge from the Memory of toxicological investigations into fatalities from traffic accidents in 2022which reveals that of the 854 drivers who died in Spain in traffic accidents and underwent autopsy and toxicological analysis, 443 tested positive for alcohol, drugs or psychotropic drugs.

Of these, 11,300 alcohol tests were positive, as were 277 drug tests. In addition, the Civil Guard opened criminal proceedings against 1,400 drivers for having alcohol and drug levels in their blood that constitute a crime.
