“A friend says that we are a sect and he is right. From the outside we have to be seen as grilled”. Taylor Swift’s fans have been living since June 20, when the singer announced her tour of Europe scheduled for 2024, living in a continuous and dramatic ‘tetris’ game. The Eras Tour will have a single stop in Spain, on May 30 in Madrid, but few have been willing to risk that this was their only trump card to get tickets. For this reason, the sale in other cities such as Lisbon, Amsterdam, Warsaw and Vienna, have also been experienced as Risk battles that this Thursday culminated in the feat located in Spain.

Taylor Swift will perform on May 30, 2024 in Madrid in her only concert in Spain

Further

“The ‘Hunger Games’ begin” has begun to be read on Twitter since 13:30. Time at which the adjudication queue could be accessed tickets for what will be the singer’s return to the capital since 2011. An appointment that will host the new Santiago Bernabéu stadium, whose capacity exceeds 80,000 seats.

To aspire to obtain tickets, people who would like to attend the shows of the interpreter of hits like Anti-Hero y Cruel Summer, they had to register before they went on sale. The registration period opened from the day of the announcement, and remained available until June 22 at 11:59 p.m. Fans could register in as many cities as they wanted to ensure preferential access in the subsequent purchase, knowing that the mere fact of registering would not guarantee obtaining the exclusive code that would make it possible: there was the option of remaining on the waiting list.

“For Madrid to play me, I asked friends, co-workers and family to register. In fact, the one I finally got was for my nephew”, says Dani, who has reached the decisive day of ticket sales in the capital with already tickets purchased for August 9 in Vienna. He was relatively lucky, as he also obtained codes for Amsterdam, Munich, Stockholm, Warsaw, Dublin and Lyon. Others like Juana, who registered in up to five cities, was left out of all of them, but she took it with a certain philosophy: “I thought that my story ended there. That which saves me I’ll watch the concert when it’s released on Netflix.”

After the first sieve and agony of getting hold of the code, the moment of truth arrived: getting the tickets once the indicated date arrived –which has differed depending on the city–. Of course, you had to have done the casting of friends, calendar through, with which to bet on going to the show.

“The stress began when the concerts were announced, because you were going to make your plan, knowing that there would be people who wanted to go to the track, others to the stands…”, says Fernando, who acknowledges to this newspaper that, given the “madness ” who is assuming to be able to go see the singer live: “I think that sometimes the worst thing in my life is being a fan of Taylor Swift”. In his case, he had to organize with his partner, mother, sister and brother-in-law; in addition to several friends, by different points of the European map. “It’s been a bobbin lace on the go,” he adds.

Taylor Swift show tickets are nominative and with each code you can buy only four. A strategy with which Ticketmaster, the company in charge of its distribution, seeks to deal with resale. The regulations indicate that the last name of the buyer who obtains more than one ticket will appear on each one of the order; in such a way that he must be present so that the entire group is allowed access to the enclosure, and all must enter at the same time.

“Taylor is going to break friendships”, Dani manages to assure about the artist, whose first intention was to go with seven other friends –eight in total– to see her in Madrid, or even Lisbon. Given how complex it was being that, despite having two codes, they achieved eight tickets, they raised the option of making a getaway to Portugal. Now, what if they only got four tickets? Double helping of conflict.

“I have seen less dramatic divorces,” Adriano told elDiario.es, who has witnessed the “anger” within his group of friends. “It is very difficult to get tickets for a lot of people, which in our case is normal because several of us usually go to concerts. Seeing how to divide ourselves is a horror ”, he indicates. Carla, who has found herself in a similar situation, reveals that in the discussions between her gang there has been a competition to see who was the biggest fan of Taylor and, therefore, deserved to have priority: “A friend asked out loud that we each say aloud, and betrayal, ten songs by Taylor as if we were in a selectivity exam”.

Tour Europe to see Taylor, not suitable for all budgets

The attempt to access ticket sales to as many cities as possible to ensure that they could see Taylor was, first, an option not suitable for all budgets. Fernando has arrived in Madrid with tickets for Lisbon, Adriano for Amsterdam, Dani for Vienna, Paula for London and Juan for Warsaw. The last one bought the tickets with a friend as a result of a process that he defines as going “pretty well until she panicked when she went to pay. Just when we did, the website went down.”

They have paid 150 euros for the tickets. Dani paid 178 euros to access the front stage [espacio frontal] from the capital of Austria, Fernando 68 in the furthest tier from the Portuguese location, Paula 150 for the same one in London and Adriano 200 in the most advanced part of the track of the Netherlands option. Expenses to which will later have to be added the price of accommodation and transport.

“We wanted Madrid but of course, it was one of the last dates that could be bought. What were we doing, taking risks and eliminating opportunities betting everything on Spain? We opted why not. We buy for all of them and then we resell them even if it is at cost price. Later we saw that this was not going to be possible. So what we achieved would be achieved and that’s it”, explains Fernando. What is transferable is the purchase code.

Most of the fans consulted for this article affirm that, regardless of whether the operation ‘get tickets in Madrid’ was a success or not, they will still go to the shows out of Spain. Adriano had a bit more luck in this regard, since his two tickets to Amsterdam were bought by a friend. In such a way that, if he had also achieved those in the capital, he could have left his place for two other fans who had been left out. “It’s a lot of money and I’m not riding on the dollar,” he justifies.

WhatsApp chats between friends have burned every day of sale of tickets of Taylor’s shows in Europe, but the networks too. Twitter has begun to fill up this Thursday from 1:30 p.m. with messages from fans imploring that the web not fall and that they could culminate the feat. “Please, I never leave my house for anything. Life, give me luck with this event. I need it ”, has published a follower.

This same week, Tuesday became a dramatic day for those who had a code for Paris, where the singer will perform up to four times, between May 9 and 12, 2024; as well as Lyon, whose turn will be on June 2 and 3. From Ticketmaster France the decision was made to pause both processes, which are the ones that have not yet been rescheduled. At the time they indicated on social networks that there was “a problem with an external provider that is working to resolve it as soon as possible.”

This is not the first time something like this has happened in The Eras Tour, since last November the United States underwent the same battle for the singer’s tickets. Ticketmaster was forced to cancel the sale after 3.5 million requests crashed the digital sales portal.

“You are already in the queue”

The sale of tickets in Madrid has been one day after the one in Lisbon. “It was chaos. I don’t know if I was too slow or what, but I didn’t get in until an hour and a half later. I thought I wouldn’t get it. The problem is that seeing this panorama, with dates that have gone so badly, it undermines your morale and you think that there will be no way to get those tickets, ”Fernando acknowledges.

Being already an expert in the field, it was clear to me what the mode of operation to follow for Madrid who, in general, have repeated the entire set of fans. “You have to mess with your email account and that of Ticketmaster open so that it does not give errors. That’s why you can’t be asking 28,000 people to get in for you. My boyfriend messes with his computer and his mobile, and I do the same, to see on which device it shows that you are at the top of the queue, ”he explains. 45,048 has been the position on the waiting list that he has achieved this Thursday in the Madrid queue.

“All connected devices. I’m trembling”, Dani acknowledged, already from the queue, minutes before 2:00 p.m. Finally they have slipped into position 25,000, which has caused him to utter out loud: “I want to die.” All this without, yet, knowing the prices to be paid, which have amounted to 226.50 euros for the front spaces (left and right), 170 euros for ‘general track’ tickets and between 85 and 221 euros for reserved seats. In the case of VIP packages, they have cost between 282 and 589 euros.

Half an hour later, Dani has reached position 8,500. Another fifteen minutes later it has dropped to 2,900, but the counter has stopped going down. “I think it should be over. She has all the looks ”, he immediately lamented. Three minutes later, she has been activated again, by then raising the tension levels to the highest: “I can no longer with life.”

Little by little the networks have been filling with messages of victory, with fans even sharing videos of how they have celebrated the moment in which their tickets have been confirmed. “Hallelujah!” another cried out. “I have survived the ‘Great War'”, has published another. Although not all. An hour later, at 3:00 p.m., all the tickets except for the VIP ones have been sold out. “400 euros… Bye”, Dani said. “Some of my friends are destroyed. I think tomorrow we will try Dublin just in case ”, has advanced this fan who, even so, has assured his trip to Vienna to see Swift in August.

Fernando, who had started more than 20,000 positions behind him, has also ended up opting only for the VIPs: “They were our only hope, but they were more than 380 euros. I didn’t even go to any other concert, I would buy it, but in the end I already had tickets for two others. You had to put the limit somewhere ”. Or maybe not so much: “Well, I have the Lyon code. I don’t rule out trying my luck and see if I get there”.
