The Kremlin said today that Russia’s presidential election was absolutely fair and that President Vladimir Putin had achieved a unique victory of unprecedented significance, Reuters reported.
The agency described the comments as a reaction to accusations by the Russian opposition that the results were rigged in Putin’s favor.
In a telephone conversation with journalists, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said that the proposal of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Josep Borrell to use the proceeds from the frozen Russian assets to buy weapons for Ukraine would undermine the foundations of international law. Europeans are aware of the damage to their reputation from such proposals, he added.
For her part, the spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, also condemned Borel’s idea of using the income from Russian assets to finance Kiev, defining it as tantamount to banditry and theft, BTA reported.
