The Embassy of the State of Palestine in Libya expressed its appreciation and respect for the State of Libya and its people for their vote and support for the adoption of the resolution to support the Palestinian right to full membership in the United Nations.

In a statement published on its Facebook page, the embassy expressed its appreciation for the effort made by the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by Libya’s representative to the United Nations, Al-Taher Al-Sunni, the Libyan mission team, and Ambassador Ziad Daghim in The Hague, to support the prosecution of the occupation for its crimes in the International Court of Justice.

The statement also praised the directives of the President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi, and the Head of the National Unity Government, Abdel Hamid Al-Dabaiba, and the follow-up of the person in charge of running the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al-Taher Al-Baour.

Libya – representing the Arab and Islamic Group at the United Nations – submitted a request for a “declaration of intervention” in the case brought by South Africa before the International Court of Justice regarding the implementation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in Gaza.

Libya also voted yesterday in favor of Palestine becoming a full member of the United Nations, granting it additional rights.

Libya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Al-Tahir Al-Sunni, explained that the resolution was presented by the Arab Group, noting that it was adopted by a two-thirds majority in the United Nations General Assembly.
