The European Union observation mission located in Armenia has carried out 1,720 patrols over the past year, which contributed to peace and security in the border regions.

As “Armenpress” informs, this was announced by the head of the mission Marcus Ritter at the event dedicated to the 1st anniversary of the EU observation mission in Armenia.

He reminded that during the activity of the first months of the observation mission, a headquarters was established in Yeghegnadzor and 6 leading bases, starting from Ijevan and ending with Kapan.

“Until today, the EU observation mission has conducted 1,720 patrols, which contributed to peace and security in the border regions.

I would like to express our deep gratitude to the EU member states for their political support, as well as to Canada for sending an expert.

The recent decision to strengthen the EU Monitoring Mission and increase its staff to 209 reaffirms the success and determination of the EU Monitoring Mission to support stability and peace,” Ritter said.

“Despite the difficult operational situation, the mission plays an important stabilizing role in the border regions, contributing to the de-escalation of the tense situation and reducing the number of incidents,” Ritter emphasized.

He thanked Armenia for its generous support and constructive involvement.

“I would like to emphasize the professional level of my staff. Although they work far from their homes and families, their dedication has greatly contributed to the mission’s success.

Given the current context of uncertainty, we remain committed to our mandate as an impartial actor in support of the European Union’s settlement efforts in this region,” Ritter concluded.
