The European Commission will allocate almost 26 million euros in subsidies to two Spanish projects for the installation of a total of 1,838 electric vehicle charging points in order to expand the infrastructure of the alternative fuel refueling network throughout the Red Transeuropea de Transporte.

Specifically, it will subsidize a project of the Grupo Easycharger for the deployment of 125 charging stations with 1,002 publicly accessible rapid charging points of at least 150 kilowatts (kW) each and with 125 connections to the network with a minimum of 600 kilovoltamperes (kVA). All stations will use certified electricity of 100% renewable origin and will include photovoltaic panels.

Besides, Aena will receive another almost 4 million euros to install 836 charging points – 60 single chargers and 388 double chargers – in 37 Spanish airports.

These items are part of the 352 million euros of community financing from which a total of 26 low- and zero-emission transport projects in 12 Member States will benefit.

The subsidies are made under the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Instrument, sponsored by the ‘Connecting Europe’ Facilitywith additional capital from financial institutions to increase the impact of investments.

The selected projects will accelerate the creation of the extensive network of alternative fuel refueling infrastructure necessary to widespread the use of low or zero emission vehicles in all modes of transport. This is the second round of financing for 2023, after 189 million euros were already allocated last March.
