Energy Minister of Moldova Victor Parlicov said that Moldova can resume gas purchases from Gazprom for the right bank of the Dniester (for own needs – IF)if the price is favorable, Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax.
“In 2023, Moldova did not purchase Russian gas for the right bank, because there was no point, since it was more profitable on the exchange. Over the past year, we saved about 60 million euros due to the fact that we purchased gas on the market, and not from the Russian supplier” , Parlicov said on the public television channel Moldova 1 on Wednesday.
“We adhere to a pragmatic approach – if the price is better, then we can purchase from Gazprom. Such a scenario is not excluded. I’m not saying that we will do this, but I don’t rule it out either. But if the price on the stock exchange is more profitable, then why overpay” Gazprom? We, first of all, base it on the price so that the tariff for the end consumer is as low as possible,” the minister explained.
At the same time, he emphasized that “there is no political decision prohibiting purchases from Gazprom, no sanctions have been imposed.”
