At the moment, when spring is eagerly awaited, but at the same time the restless events around us also make one’s mind a little worried, the latest exhibition in Sabile invites viewers to contemplate the complexity of human existence and the search for meaning in a world full of uncertainty. In addition, the works of Artist Diana Janušones are proof of how technically diverse textile art works can be.

Sabile’s Art, Culture and Tourism Center currently exhibits the works of textile artist Diana Janušones, created in the last couple of years. That’s why various events in the world and also in my own life have influenced the theme of the exhibition and made me raise the big questions of life. “About the importance of time in our life, in human life. How we perceive time and how we deal with it, if we could say so,” says textile artist Diāna Janušone.

The exhibition offers a different perspective on the tapestry, and most of the works are made in the tufting technique. “Carpet making technique, industrially speaking, but it is also adapted to home conditions, so you can make the tool yourself. That is why it is such a new discovery for me, and I saw that it is technically suitable for materializing or, as it were, bringing my sketches to life,” says Diana Janušone.

Doors, windows… the exhibition also deals a lot with the theme of existence. “Each new stage in our life is also connected with the fact that we close one door and open the next one. And here there is a lot of this topic – about doors, about windows, about life and maybe also death in a sense,” shares the thoughts of the head of the Sabile art, culture and tourism center pi Dace Leja.

The spacious space of the synagogue is a challenge for the artist, but at the same time it fascinates with its brightness and size. This time, the room is filled not only with tufting works, but also with screen-printed and spatial works. For example, plaster casts show that we are among so many in this world, but in reality, at the very core, we are only with ourselves. “A different vision again – it is contemporary art, something different, it is not in a standard frame. At the present exhibition, we also see that brains are caged – we are going out of comfort zones, out of stereotypes,” said Dace Leja.

“I think that in some ways Diana’s works are so timeless, about such themes that are eternally relevant, so I think you could transfer them to different times and different places, but you could always find something there for yourself. This is what really appeals to me in Diana’s works,” shares the artist, Diana Janušone’s colleague at the Latvian Art Academy, Elīna Ābiete.

The exhibition in Sabile will be on display until April 27.
