Pavel Shapkin, chairman of the National Union for the Protection of Consumer Rights, explained how to buy high-quality artificial spruce. According to him, you need to pay attention to two things – smell and composition, reports RT.
It is the smell, says Shapkin, that will tell about the quality of the materials used by the manufacturer.
“Inhalation of solvents that are released from low-quality plastic is fraught with health problems, especially since the tree will stand for maybe two or more weeks,” said the expert.
As for the composition, a high-quality spruce should be made of polyethylene. According to Shapkin, this is the safest plastic.
“All chlorine and styrene-containing plastics emit harmful substances. The only more or less normal polymer material is low-pressure polyethylene, where no plasticizers are used to give it additional plasticity, or hardeners,” says the specialist.
You can identify the material by marking on the packaging.
“If polyethylene, you can safely take it, it will serve for a long time and is safe enough,” Shapkin summed up.
