The famous supporter of “Lokomotiv” (Pd) Valentin Stanchev-Chobata has left. He made a living carrying boxes and doing other services for merchants in the center of Plovdiv. He slept in abandoned houses in the area. The sad news was announced on his Facebook profile by the famous poet, writer and playwright Nedyalko Slavov. Here is his post:
THE CARTON MAN
It appeared years ago and became part of the center of Plovdiv. In my mind, I associate it not with some overall image, but with individual details. The orange fingers he used to pick up the pennies, the whitish lips he used to grip the cardboard coffee cup, his peculiar way of watching a match through the window of the Rafi bistro – frozen, with his eyes darting over the bouncing jaws of the chewing patrons. He did this and that for the merchants, collected boxes, carried something lighter.
He’s gone these days.
Non-necrosis. Phoneless. Homeless. Almost disembodied. Unmarked, tracked by some marked street dog.
The chobata.
That’s what they told him.
Easy way, yours here was worse than the dog’s, but unlike all of us, you were a Free Man..
