Awarding awards in such a good, diverse and captivating year of Spanish cinema is very difficult. It does not matter who is chosen, what the pools dictate or the titles that start as favorites in the nominations. All the options imply leaving out great titles and better professionals. The Feroz 2023 Awards have tried —and succeeded— distributing their awards. the beasts y official competition They have won Best Drama and Best Comedy, respectively; while Carla Simón has risen as Best Director for Alcarras and Alauda Ruiz de Azúa as Best Screenplay by Five beads.

In the acting categories, Nacho Sánchez has been chosen as Best Leading Actor for his work in manticore and Laia Costa as Best Leading Actress for her work in Cinco Lobitos. Luis Zahera by the beasts and Susi Sánchez, also for Five beadshave been recognized as Best Supporting Actor and Actress.
All this on the tenth anniversary of these decorations, which has counted as presenters with figures who have exerted so much work throughout its ten years of history. Shakira sneaks in to ask for more budget for the directors
“Today we are here to break the statistics, because as Shakira’s boss says ‘women no longer cry, women bill’”. With these words, Bárbara Santa-Cruz has won unanimous applause at the 2023 Feroz Awards, with which she has demanded higher budgets for films directed by women. Titles that, in the last year, had half the funding than those shot by men. “They took 32% and they 68%,” said the actress at the ceremony held this Saturday.
“We also like to give visibility to these discriminated groups. It is very important to ask for a loud round of applause for this genre that is now so reviled: male cinema”, he continued ironically. For the first time in the history of the awards, the nominations for Best Director have been won mostly by female directors (Pilar Palomero, Carla Simón, Carlota Pereda and Alauda Ruiz de Azúa), compared to a single director, Rodrigo Sorogoyen.

Five beads has added her second prize (out of a total of three) with the Feroz for Best Leading Actress for Laia Costa, who recalled that it was precisely weeks before the first time she attended a gala of these awards when, having a coffee, Alauda Ruiz de Azúa presented him with the idea of the film. “It was hard for me to learn her name, but now we remember everything because she has come to stay”, she assured, “the script shone in the way that things that have a lot of magic inside do. I keep learning”, said Nacho Sánchez, Feroz 2023 for Best Leading Actor for manticore, “I’m going to take it as the Movie Award.” The award for Best Poster also went to the film by Carlos Vermut, who designed it himself. In the case of Best Trailer, the winner was Marta Longás for little pig.
Ruiz de Azúa has gone up to collect the third award for Five beads, after being crowned the winner of the Feroz Award for Best Screenplay. The director has thanked what she has defined as the “heart” of the film, her cast. And to her producers “for having trusted the script of a rookie.” She has also mentioned Pedro Almodóvar: “You had some precious words for our film. You have been the best ambassador possible. Thank you very much for your generosity.” Finally, she has referred to her family because “this year they have been very patient and have had to deny that the film was autobiographical.”
The tribute to Alcarras It has come from the hand of Carla Simón, winner of the Feroz Award for Best Director. “Thanks to my family, because without them I would have nothing to tell,” she said. In turn, she has spoken about the actors in the film, because “they put their body and soul into this project. They left their jobs, they committed themselves so that the film would go ahead and now we are a very beautiful family ”.
