The fifth edition of Girona in Motionthe solidarity dance festival of Oncolliga Girona, andwill include for the first time an immersive dance proposal. This is the GeMverse Party, a proposal where they live together dance and interactive environments with which the contest wants to reach new audiences. As usual, however, from July 13 to 16 the event will include shows, conferences, dance workshops and a short film competitiona formula that since 2017 has allowed rto raise 80,000 euros to work against cancer.

The main novelty this year will be the GeMverse Party, which will take place on July 15 in Platea, with three interactive proposals. The first, We are bits, a virtual reality, dance and quantum physics experience by Helena Macruz and Daniel Cavalcanti that consists of dancing interaction with a virtual dancer through special glasses. The second, draw music, a performative drawing workshop led by Rafa Castañer with the musician Chus Portela, a musical and cinematic experience around the graphic representation of music and dance. Finally, there will be a Lindy Hop dance with the Eagle Swing group.

The other highlight is the closing gala, Catalonia dances against cancer, which on July 16 will bring together more than twenty national and international solo dancers at the Municipal Theatre. The gala is complemented by the traditional post-function cocktail dinner in the Saló de Descans of the theater itself.

The festival will open its 2023 edition on Thursday, July 13 betting on health from the movement, with three workshops that relate body expression and comprehensive health: Account of the experience, that allows sharing experiences through bodily expression, Focusingan occasion to listen to one’s body and handle what worries us, and Sensations through hair and facial massage. All three will be in charge of psycho-oncology and physiotherapy professionals from the Fundació Oncolliga Girona. On the same day at the Caixa Forum Girona, a colloquium on cancer and identities will be held with experts in psycho-oncology, gynaecology, sexology and sociology.

Short film competition

After last year’s success, the festival has decided to continue the cinematic language through dance. On Friday 14 July at Cinema Truffaut, the screening of the finalist short films will take place dance and identities film competition and the presentation of awards by this year’s jury. So far, 58 proposals have already been submitted to the competition. You can still participate until June 1 through the contest website and the ClickForFestivals, FilmFreeway and Festhome platforms.

All the proposals have as a common thread the potential of dance as a means of expressing emotions and ideas through movement, but also as a catalyst for the formation and celebration of individual and collective identities. Dance has the ability to connect people to their roots, explore their own identity and build a sense of community around shared experiences and feelings.

On the other hand, it will take place on Saturday 15 July at the Fontajau Pavilion a Gaga Workshop directed by Ariadna Montfort intended for all types of public regardless of their physical training. Everyone is welcome. Developed by choreographer Ohad Naharin, Gaga is a movement language intended to help those who practice it increase awareness and listen to the rhythm of the body and the pleasure that movement provides.

Educational project

The 2023 edition continues the educational project A journey into the world of dance andstarted last year in order to reach the schools of Girona. This year, thanks to the support and collaboration of the Movement and Languages ​​Chair of the University of Girona and the Sant Gregori City Council, 260 second grade students from three different schools (Escola Àgora, Maristes Girona and Escola Montfalgars) can join in on site to an interactive dance workshop between the months of April and May. The workshop allows you to get to know the profession of the ballerina and the dancer and discover what is hidden behind the curtain, going from taking the place of the spectator to being artists for a few moments. Professional artists Tess Buck and Volodomyr Fortunenko lead the workshop presented by educator Elisabeth Buck.
