The first launch of the Soyuz-5 carrier rocket will take place on December 24, 2025, follows from the materials presented to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin during a visit to the Progress Rocket and Space Center (RKC) in Samara. About it informs TASS.

During the visit, the chairman of the government was shown the Soyuz assembly and testing shop, and then presented materials according to which the assembly of the rocket will be completed on November 25, 2025. The Soyuz-5 launch from the Baikonur cosmodrome is scheduled for December 24.

The Soyuz-5 medium-class launch vehicle was named Irtysh and is being produced as part of the joint Russian-Kazakhstan project Baiterek. The model of the rocket was presented on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa summit at the end of July. Then Daniil Subbotin, deputy general director of Progress for development, said that Soyuz-5 would be ready for launch at the end of 2025. Now the components of the launch vehicle are being tested, he specified.

In June, the state corporation Roscosmos, which includes the RCC Progress, announced the manufacture of a liquid-propellant rocket engine RD-171MV for the first flight tests of the rocket. They specified that the Energomash Research and Production Association plans to complete the assembly of the engine for the second flight rocket, as well as to produce the engine for the third.

In “Roskosmos” the new engine was called “the most powerful in the world.” The state corporation announced the completion of fire tests of the engine in August 2022.
