The first Olympic medal from Nanjing – Today, fresh news from Armenia

On August 16-28, the 2nd Youth Olympic Games will take place in the Chinese city of Nanjing, in which 14 Armenian athletes will participate, including shooters Zaven Igityan and Hrachik Babayan. They participate in the games under the guidance of Seyran Nikoghosyan, head coach of the national shooting team of Armenia. This is reported by the Shooting Federation of Armenia.

As we have already informed, on August 18 Zaven Igityan took the 5th place in the air pistol, 10 m, 60 shots exercise.

Today, on August 20, 18-year-old Hrachik Babayan entered the competition arena and recorded high results. Air rifle, 10m, 60 shots, first cleared the qualification hurdle in the boys competition, scoring 624.8 points, recording the 2nd highest result. Young shooters from 20 countries took part in the latter. The leaders recorded such results in the qualification stage.

In the final, Hrachik Babayan maintained his position, winning the silver medal of the Youth Olympic Games, which is the first medal for Armenia.

In the final, the best three were preserved. Chinese Haoran Yang won the title of champion with 209.3 points, our compatriot Hrachik Babayan won silver medal with 204.3 points, Hungarian István Peny won bronze medal with 183.5 points.

Hrach Babayan is a student of the Yerevan Children’s Shooting Sports School, and his personal trainer is Andranik Ayvazyan.
