Berlin – The five-story office building is still the flagship for the area in the south of Guben. It once belonged to the VEB Chemiefaserwerk Guben. From there came what was woven into the famous Dederon elsewhere and ended up in blouses, smock aprons and shopping bags. Up until the fall of the Berlin Wall, 8,000 people worked in the plant. After that it was split up, sold and closed. Today the Guben-Süd industrial park is located on the site, where 35 companies with 1200 employees have settled. But chemistry is coming back soon. The German-Canadian company Rock Tech Lithium wants to set up a production facility in Guben from which manufacturers of e-car batteries will be supplied with the most important raw material. “We will be the lithium partner of the automotive industry,” says Rock Tech boss Dirk Harbecke. Lithium instead of Dederon. Mobility instead of fashion.
