New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear the case related to forest fire in Uttarakhand on May 8. There have been 910 incidents of forest fire in Uttarakhand since November 1 last year. Due to this, 1145 hectares of forest has been damaged. The matter came up for hearing before a bench led by Supreme Court Justice BR Gavai.

In this case, the applicant’s lawyer said that 44 percent of the forests in the Kumaon area are on fire. The most disturbing thing is that 90 percent of these fires are caused by people. The lawyer said yes it is so. This entire area is blessed with pine trees. The bench said that it will hear the case on May 8. Such a case is pending in the Supreme Court since 2019 and then the Supreme Court had said that forest fire is a big problem and it is a serious issue especially during summer. The reason behind this is that there is pine tree which is extremely flammable. Due to this, there is huge loss to wildlife and the environment. The petition said that the Centre, Uttarakhand government and the forest department should be directed to make arrangements to prevent fires in the state and prepare a policy to prevent forest fires.
