Alberto Fujimori was sentenced to 25 years in prison for human rights abuses during his decade-long rule in the 1990s. The country’s highest court pardoned him in 2017 and ordered his release. He was released on Wednesday evening local time after the permission of the court. Fujimori spent 16 years in prison after being extradited from Chile in 2007.
