The founders of Wushu presented seven-point demands, including the dissolution of the current committee of the Bangladesh Wushu Federation led by Dulal Hossain, a member of the Awami League’s central sports sub-committee, and an audit of all the past financial accounts of the federation.
Bangladesh Wushu Founders Forum Chairman Ed. Shahidul Haque Bhuiyan, Secretary General Shifu Dildar Hasan (Dilu), coaches, judges and organizers made this demand in a press conference organized at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Saturday morning.
At the press conference Ed. Shahidul Haque Bhuiyan said, ‘I demand the abolition of the current dictatorial committee in Wushu. The founders of this sport in Bangladesh have worked hard to build this national sports federation and have brought various national and international achievements. But then, like the various sports federations, this federation has also been taken over politically.’
He also said, ‘After winning the last gold medal in the international competition in 2010, no gold could be brought in this discipline. There has been no new achievement for so many years.’
As you know, before the national elections, the Ad Hoc Committee of Ushur has formed a committee under the leadership of Dulal Hossain. Therefore, our demand is that this undemocratic committee formed with the connivance of Awami League’s Central Publicity Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap and Dulal Hossain, a member of Awami League’s sports sub-committee, should be dissolved. Shahidul added.
The organizers seek government support for better training and financial support for wushu players, judges and coaches.
Shifu Dildar Hasan, founder general secretary of Wushu, said, ‘They could not bring sponsors because of their incompetence. The money allocated by the National Sports Council has been taken but even then it has not been utilized for the development or organization of sports. They have not participated in any international games. Only participated in an invitational competition. Besides, 21 lakhs has been spent on various formalities. This is how they have damaged the game.’
This wushu organizer said that Bangladesh won three gold medals, seven silver medals and 11 bronze medals in the third South Asian Championship organized in Dhaka in 2008. Also won two gold medals and 2 bronze medals at the 2010 SA Games. Also the game has been added to BKSP, Army, Border Guard and various organizations. Organizers have also taken the lead in South Asia. But the federation has lost its zeal and direction since its political takeover.
Allegedly, 2010 SA Games gold medalist Mejbah Uddin has not been allowed to enter the federation for the past 10 years. Although he was nominated as a member from the National Sports Council, he was not supported.
The speaker complained that Dulal Hossain, general secretary of Ushu, is not a Ushu person. However, he is performing his duties as a coach of the army and Ansar.
Shifu Dildar Hasan said, ‘The coach of the federation does not even understand the game. He did not play in this discipline. He claimed to have a certificate. But it is known that the certificate is also fake. Besides, a cycling coach has been brought in as the treasurer of Ushu who was previously the cycling coach of BJMC. In this way people from outside Wushu have been added to the federation.’
Mohammad Anwar Hossain, international coach of Ushur and organizer of Sylhet Ushur, who was present at the press conference, said that the current general secretary Dulal Hossain had cheated him financially. He said that the 300 dollars owed to him for traveling to Mecca and expenses for the training of international coaches and referees was not explained. He also said that despite a written complaint to the National Sports Council, no remedy was found.
Besides, Ushur club organizer Mohammad Rezaul Karim Sadi complained against the current general secretary and said that the official took money for club registration in 2018. He also forced us to buy a dress. But despite assurances, they were not included later. He also accused of preventing the organization of the game.
Earlier, Wushu Federation vice-president Alamgir Shah also claimed that after 2010, there will be no significant achievements in Wushu until 2024. In 2017, he failed to win gold even after participating in an event. Nothing but bronze and silver medals were won there with only 2/1. In addition, this long-term receivables fund is zero.
At that time, the vice-president of the federation also claimed that general secretary Dulal Hossain had issued various certificates at irregular times by forging his signature.
At the end of the press conference, Shifu Dildar Hasan, founder general secretary of Ushu, said, ‘Today I told our demands. Soon we will inform the sports search committee about everything. If it still doesn’t work, we will go to a larger movement to bring back transparency.’
