A close battle took place at the beginning of the coastal section of two laps around the race course, without anyone wanting to give an inch to a rival team.

What appeared to be great starts for the 11th Hour Racing Team and GUYOT Environnement-Team Europe, after the two boats sped across the line at the sound of the starting gun, turned out to be less so in the end.

The two IMOCAs were judged to have crossed the start line prematurely and were forced to turn around and restart the stage, a costly mistake that left the way clear for Biotherm to take the lead ahead of Team Malizia and the Team Holcim PRB.

With around 10 knots of wind, the conditions did not allow the foils to be completely out, but even so the fleet was progressing at a speed of up to 18 knots.

Biotherm continued to extend her lead, helped in part by the close duel for second place between the next two boats. At the start of the second lap, Holcim-PRB finally managed to overtake Malizia for second, with the two entrants who made the offline, GUYOT and 11th Hour Racing, trailing behind.

At the end of the coastal leg, Biotherm had a large lead over the fleet, while GUYOT had done a good job of overturning the deficit with Malizia.
