On February 14, the official presentation of the horticulture sector development program in Armenia (“Frutenia”) took place.
The program is implemented by the International Center for Agribusiness Research and Education (ICARE) Foundation and the National Agrarian University of Armenia with the financial support of “Austrian Development Cooperation”.
During the presentation of the project, Arman Khojoyan, the Deputy Minister of Economy of the RA, Vardan Urutyan, the rector of the Armenian Academy of Sciences, Nora Alanakyan, the deputy director of the Austrian Development Cooperation, and Artur Grigoryan, the director of the ICARE Foundation, made a speech of welcome.
Deputy Minister Arman Khojoyan emphasized the importance of the project in terms of the development of horticulture in general and in particular the successful implementation of relevant programs outlined by the Ministry.
Rector Urutyan, in his turn, noted that the “Frutenia” program is of fundamental importance for the Agrarian University, because through the program, the agronomic subjects of the university will be modernized, new teaching methods will be introduced, and sector professors will be trained. He added that actually the main beneficiary of the program is the student, who will be given the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired during the studies in a practical environment.
For this purpose, an intensive orchard equipped with modern technologies will be established in the Voskehat farm of the Agrarian University.
The main financier of the project, the deputy director of “Austria Development Cooperation” Nora Alanakyan mentioned in her speech that since 2012, their agency has been implementing various projects in Armenia, mainly in the agricultural sector, with the aim of increasing both the level of agricultural development and efficiency.
Within the framework of the “Frutenia” project, the first electronic learning and information platform in the field of fruit growing will be created in the Armenian language, which will be available to all beneficiaries: farmers, students, experts, as well as the general public.
The four-year program started on December 1, 2019.
