The problem of mass layoffs, which the gaming industry faced back in 2023, remains a trend in 2024. As reported by Aftermath, more than 2.5 thousand people have been laid off from large companies in the gaming segment since the beginning of 2024, Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru.

In particular, about 1,800 people who helped maintain the popular game engine Unity, 500 employees of the Twitch streaming service, and 170 specialists from the Discord platform for gamers lost their jobs. In addition, at least several dozen video game developers from the game studio Lost Boys Interactive (owned by Gearbox), which took part in the creation of the game Diablo IV, found themselves without work.

In the latter case, the problem may be due to lack of funding. Gearbox-owning publishing group Embracer has failed to convince Saudi investors to invest $2 billion in the company.
