The Garfield Movie: Exploring Garfield’s love for Italian food and more!

by time news

The beloved lasagna-loving feline is back, and this time he’s getting the big-screen treatment. Chris Pratt, fresh off his turn as the voice of Nintendo’s iconic plumber Mario, is set to bring everyone’s favorite grumpy orange cat to life in next summer’s The Garfield Movie.

In the first trailer for the upcoming film, fans get a glimpse of an origin story for Garfield and his deep emotional attachment to Italian food. But don’t let the heart-rending beginning fool you, this is an animated comedy with plenty of promised hijinks.

According to Sony Pictures’ official synopsis, Garfield and his adopted brother Odie will embark on a “hilarious, high-stakes heist” after a run-in with Garfield’s biological father, street cat Vic, voiced by Samuel L. Jackson. The star-studded cast also includes Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein, and Bowen Yang.

While the first trailer may hint at an overreliance on lasagna gags, The Garfield Movie promises to be a visual treat and is loaded with Easter eggs for Jim Davis fans. And for those who can’t get enough, there will be abundant product placement from Olive Garden.

Directed by Mark Dindal and with a screenplay by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgove, and David Reynolds, The Garfield Movie is set to hit theaters on May 24, 2024. Get ready to see the lasagna-loving cat and his friends come to life in this highly-anticipated animated adventure.
