Minister of Industry and Minerals Khaled Battal confirmed today, Saturday, that the government has attached exceptional importance to strategic factories.

Battal said, in a speech during the opening of the rolling mill, one of the factories of the General Iron and Steel Company in Basra, and followed by the (INA), that “the opening of the second phase of the Dab fertilizer factory, as well as the urea fertilizer factory, took place with the follow-up of the Prime Minister.”
He added, “Basra Governorate is the economic capital of Iraq and the destination of large investment and industrial projects,” noting that “the government attached exceptional importance to the iron and steel factory, as it was the first topic discussed by the Prime Minister when he visited the ministry last year in 2023, after the work had been… “It has been suspended for technical reasons, the Corona pandemic, and the non-approval of the budget for 2022.”
He continued, “The Prime Minister directed that the project be restarted and all procedures related to its powers be facilitated, with follow-up by him and his specialized team.”
He stressed, “The iron and steel factory will soon be opened, which was delayed a little for technical reasons because the technology used in it is advanced and requires experts from countries around the world.”
He pointed out that “the ministry’s plan in the current government is to focus on strategic industries and leave simple small industries to the private sector.”
