the government suffers its first setback in the National Assembly, which rejects the “senior index” in companies

by time news

For the government of Elisabeth Borne, this is a first cut in its pension reform. Tuesday, February 14, the deputies rejected, shortly before midnight, article 2, creating a « index seniors » in companies, by 256 votes against, 203 for. A first defeat also for the elected representatives of the presidential coalition on this text, the main measure of which is the decline in the legal retirement age from 62 to 64 years old.

Beyond the expected opposition from the New People’s, Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) and the National Rally (RN) to this “senior index”, the result of the ballot changed due to the vote against of 38 deputies Les Républicains (LR ) – out of 61. Among them, the president of the group, Olivier Marleix. All dispute the usefulness and even the constitutionality of the introduction of such a tool by means of a bill for the amending Social Security financing bill.

On the side of the presidential camp, the elected Horizons Thierry Benoit (Ille-et-Vilaine) and Yannick Favennec (Mayenne), who had publicly criticized the reform, abstained on this measure which obliged companies to publish monitoring indicators each year. relating to the employment of their senior employees.

When the results of the ballot were announced, the president of the Renaissance group, Aurore Bergé, incredulous, carried out a recount of the votes of her camp, convinced of an electronic failure in the votes. Under the applause of the benches of the left, the right and the far right, the “rebellious” deputies hailed this victory by singing a song emblematic of social mobilizations: “We are here. Even if Macron does not want to, we are here. “Where do you think you are?” Your behavior is unacceptable”lamented, from the perch, the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet.

Olivier Dussopt on the defensive

“Tonight, the whole left and the FN [Front national, précédent nom du Rassemblement national] celebrate the fact of removing from the pension reform project the article which creates an index of the employment of seniors. United to remove a new tool in favor of the employment of the elderly »castigated the Minister of Labor, Olivier Dussopt, on his Twitter account, without mentioning the decisive voices of the LR group. “Macron, Borne, Dussopt sunk. (…) Macronie is at bay »jubilant for his part the founder of La France insoumise (LFI), Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

For the government, this setback comes after a less tumultuous day than the previous ones in the National Assembly, even if the main measures of its bill have once again been attacked in the Hemicycle. On the defensive, the Minister of Labor, Olivier Dussopt, suffered an avalanche of questions from the opposition, mainly on long careers and the minimum pension of 1,200 euros. “How many people who are retiring, or who are already retired, will see their pension increased to 1,200 euros? »have tirelessly harped on the elected officials of Nupes, like the “rebellious” deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis Aurélie Trouvou.
