The Government is already proposing the reversal of some of the aid approved to deal with the effects of the war in Ukraine and high inflation, with a discount on fuel for professionals. This has been confirmed by the Minister of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, who has confirmed this Friday that “it is clear” that the aid put into effect to face the energy crisis “has to be withdrawn in Spain and in all countries”Therefore, everything indicates that the bonus of 10 cents per liter for the fuel used by professional transport, by the agricultural sector, shipping companies and fishermen that “ends in June” would not be renewed.

This was stated by the minister on Catalunya Radio, where she stressed that some measures already have “automatic mechanisms” with completion dates, which will cause those that currently make “less sense” are withdrawn, as the energy markets have stabilized and inflation is under control. As defended by Calviño, the Government’s policy of deciding the destination of this aid every six months gives them more “flexibility” to take “the appropriate measures with the minimum fiscal cost.”

In this sense, sources from the Ministry of Economic Affairs explained to LA RAZÓN that “it will be from June” when the measures that end on that date will have to be evaluated, such as fuel for professionals, although they did not want to confirm what the final decision on the 10 cents, despite the fact that the minister has already practically ruled it out because “The European Commission has asked the Member States to withdraw this aid, an opinion shared by other supervisory bodies”, they reiterated from the Ministry. For this reason, Calviño has insisted that the end of these energy discounts would already be justified by the “high” storage levels in Europe, which lead to a “much more comfortable” situation than in 2022 with respect to energy prices. .

The royal decree that changed this general fuel aid to a sectoral one was articulated by the Government in two phases: the first, between January 1 and March 31, which has applied a discount of 20 cents per liter of fuel consumed by a vehicle registered as professional use, and a second a bonus of 10 euro cents between April 1 and June 30, currently in force. In the case of gas-powered fleets, the compensation has gone from 27 cents until March to 14 cents in this second quarter of the year, “given the special circumstances that the gas price is facing at this stage,” pointed out the BOE text. Therefore, In just three months this aid for refueling has halved and, according to what the minister said today, it would disappear this summer.

In principle, the measures that were extended until the end of the year would remain unchanged. In this group would be the tax reductions for energy, as well as the free subscription for Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distancia, as they were approved in the General State Budgets, in which these items were consigned. He also defended the latest announcements made by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, such as the aid of two euros for the elderly to go to the cinema or pay for the European Interrail for young people this summer to be electoralists. “Not at all. There are habits that the pandemic has caused due to fear, and this measure goes in that direction.”
