it’s over without agreement but with “advances”, according to what the union representatives have reported, the state government meeting with the social agents for the pension reform. Rosa Santos, spokeswoman for the CEOE union, has regretted that, with the current design proposed by Pedro Sánchez’s executive, an agreement is currently “impossible”. At the same time, he has warned that the reform puts “pressure” on salaries and, by extension, on companies, and that this “doesn’t help” a collective bargaining agreement. As for the unions, CCOO considers that despite the progress the government’s proposal is still “insufficient“, while UGT considers the pact to be close.

The Spanish executive has committed to transfer to the parties a new draft this Tuesday which must include the new developments agreed during today’s meeting. Mainly, there has been progress in spending to reduce the gender gap and in the inclusion of minimum pensions. “Nine quite significant advances, although we are close”, in the words of Fernando Luján, of the UGT.

Another aspect on which there is also no agreement is in relation to the scope of the solidarity quota. Luján has hoped that these extremes will be included in the draft that the executive will address to them on Tuesday, and he has not ruled out that, if so, his union could approve the agreement tomorrow.
