The governor must wait; High Court said that no further action should be taken in the show cause notice

Kochi: High Court has stayed the action against the Vice Chancellors. The court directed that no final decision should be taken on the show cause notice. The High Court’s decision stayed the action pending the final decision on the petition in the High Court.

Governor Arif Muhammad Khan, the chancellor, issued a show cause notice to the VCs asking them to show cause not to dismiss them based on the Supreme Court verdict. All the VCs replied to this. The court has issued an interim order preventing the final decision on this.

The court intervened in the process of ousting the VCs following the show cause notice and instructed the Governor to wait. VCs have filed a petition against the Governor’s show cause notice. The court has instructed that no action should be taken until the final decision is reached.

The High Court will hear the detailed arguments in the case next Wednesday. The order of the court has frozen all proceedings till then. The lawyers of the VCs had pointed out in the court that many illegal things had happened in the Governor’s action.

Many VCs are not ready to explain themselves to the Governor who is the Chancellor. Kannur VC Gopinath Ravindran’s lawyer informed the court about this. Gopinath Ravindran informed through his lawyer that he does not want to go in front of someone who insulted him by calling him a criminal. Justice Devan Ramachandran clarified that the VCs can take an independent decision in this regard and the court will not direct anyone to meet the chancellor directly.
