RA Armavir Marz Governor Hambardzum Matevosyan met with grape growers and presented to them the works carried out by Armavir Marzpetarana in collaboration with the government to address issues arising in the grape procurement process.
The governor informed that in the 2021 agricultural year, the region has 4,500 hectares of technical vineyards, yielding 80-85 thousand tons.
According to Matevosyan, while seven companies are currently operating in the region, one, the Amasya branch of the “Yerevan Ararat brandy-wine-vodka combine,” is not involved in grape procurement, leading to complications.
As of September 20, 28,000 tons of grapes had been procured, with a total estimated procurement of 60-65 thousand tons. However, there is a current issue with the grape harvest, with an estimated remaining 20,000 tons to be procured. This requires adjustments in the number of growers without procurement contracts and the volume of grapes to be procured, which is being coordinated with the Ministry of Economy and relevant municipalities.
Matevosyan noted that due to their collaborative efforts, three of the procurement companies have expressed their willingness to procure an additional batch of grapes.
The governor assured grape growers that the government is actively working to resolve the situation and support farmers.
“Be sure that the government is taking all necessary measures to address this issue before the season ends,” Matevosyan concluded.
