A musical and poetic evening at the Russian House in Baku was dedicated to the work of the outstanding representative of Azerbaijani poetry, the first people’s poet of the Azerbaijan SSR, laureate of State Prizes, playwright and public figure Samad Vurgun (1906-1956), Day.Az reports.

The evening was decorated with bright performances by the pupils of the children’s ensemble “Lalələr”, students of the Asaf Zeynalli Music College, graduates of the Baku Music Academy named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli, and young talented poets.

Certificates were presented to the winners of the literary project “Books and Writers of Anniversary” by the guest of honor of the evening, Samed Vurgun’s great-grandson, laureate of international competitions, director of the Samed Vurgun House-Museum in Baku, Vurgun Vekilov.

Speakers at the event: Alina Talibova, a member of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union, head of the poetry department of the Literary Azerbaijan magazine, and Lyubov Yakunina, chairman of the Association of Teachers of Russian-language Educational Institutions of Azerbaijan, noted the great role of the poet in the development of literature, which he enriched with his immortal works.

Samed Vurgun is a creator who gave all of himself to poetry, without a trace. The poet chose the pseudonym “Vurgun” (lover), and this is no coincidence. He was in love with his Motherland, his native land, with all the beauty of the world, with people with a kind heart.

Samad Vurgun is the author of more than two hundred poems, poems, plays and dramatic works, based on which films were made and performances were staged. He also translated a number of works by world classics into Azerbaijani. Streets, cultural and educational centers in different countries are named in his honor.
