“In 2007 we entered the RFEF with a project to start women’s football by creating the Spanish Under-17 Women’s National Team, which until then had not competed. We did an analysis of what we had and what was abroad. At the time, the Nordics – along with Germany – were the dominators. We couldn’t compete with them in the short term physically, but we had a lot of football talent and we started selecting from this base knowing that in a few years we would get the best in the physical plot and, therefore, in the field soccer”. Jorge Vilda (Madrid, 1981) had a plan in mind when he was hired by the Royal Spanish Football Federation 16 years ago. It seems to have been carried out taking into account that Women’s Spain has the most successful squad in the world and that the Absolute Selection has risen in these years from the 20th place to the current sixth.
