Groundhogs frontman Tony McPhee dies at home from complications

Tony McPhee, leader of the British blues rock band The Groundhogs, has died at the age of 80. It is reported by The Guardian.

The band revealed that the singer died at home from injuries following a fall in 2022. He suffered multiple strokes.

McPhee joined the South London band The Dollar Bills in the 1960s before changing their name to The Groundhogs. In addition, the ex-soloist worked with producer Jimmy Page, recording solo tracks under his supervision and acting as a session guitarist. During the recording of Champion Jack Dupree From New Orleans to Chicago, he collaborated with Eric Clapton and Mayall.

A couple of years after McPhee joined The Groundhogs, some members left the group. At that moment, the musician started looking for new artists. The first album in the new line-up was released in the sixty-eighth year. McPhee then sang with Current 93 and had a collaboration with singer Joanna Deacon at the same time.

The first of numerous strokes in 2009 affected the artist’s vocal career, because of which he had to suspend his singing career for some time.
