The Gulf Cooperation Council confirms the continuation of the electrical interconnection project with Iraq

The Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council confirmed, on Monday, moving forward with the completion of the electricity interconnection project with Iraq.

A statement by the Council, seen by the (INA), said, “The Council affirmed its firm positions and decisions towards Iraq, and its support for the ongoing efforts to achieve security and stability in Iraq,” stressing “the importance of preserving the integrity and unity of Iraq’s lands, its full sovereignty, its Arab identity, its social fabric, and its national unity.”

According to the statement, the Ministerial Council praised the positive partnership between the Cooperation Council and Iraq, stressing the need to move forward in completing the electrical interconnection project to link Iraq to the electricity grid in the GCC countries, to achieve a greater degree of integration and interconnection between Iraq and the GCC countries, in a way that achieves their common interests and paves the way for more cooperation in the future.

The Council stressed the “Cooperation Council’s support for Iraq in combating terrorism and extremism.”

He stressed the “necessity of respecting Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and affirming the GCC countries’ standing together alongside brotherly Iraq.”
