Surrey: South African batting legend Hashim Amla has retired from all formats of cricket. This comes after the player confirmed he will not play for Surrey again in the County Championship. After a poor performance in the 2019 World Cup, Amla unexpectedly announced his retirement from international cricket. After this, the player played only in domestic leagues.

Amla has scored 34104 runs in all professional formats in a career spanning over two decades. Out of this, 18672 runs are in the Proteas jersey. He scored 9282 runs in 124 matches at an average of 46.64 in his long Test career from 2004-2019. Among the South African players in Test runs, only the legendary all-rounder Jacques Kallis (13,206 runs) is ahead of Amla. While Amla has scored 28 Test centuries, his highest score is 311* not out against England at the Oval in 2012. This is also the first Test triple century by a South African player.

Amla scored 8113 runs in 181 ODIs with 27 centuries at an average of 49.46 and 1277 runs in 44 T20Is at an average of 33.60. Amla is the fastest player to complete 25 ODI centuries. Amla has 19521 runs in first class cricket at an average of 48.55. Amla started his new career as the batting coach of MI Cape Town in the ongoing South African T20 league. Amla may become the batting coach of the South African men’s team in the future. After retiring from international cricket, the player has been playing county cricket for Surrey. He has played for Kings XI Punjab in IPL. Amla thanked the Surrey team, staff and players.
