The Turkish state pipeline company Botas and the American corporation ExxonMobil signed an agreement to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Turkey. This was announced by the head of the Turkish Ministry of Energy Alparslan Bayraktar, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“Thanks to the long-term cooperation agreement we signed with ExxonMobil in Washington, we will take another step towards diversifying our sources [энергоносителей]”, the minister wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The amount of the signed contract and the volume of gas supplies are not disclosed. It was previously reported that at the current price level, the Botas agreement with ExxonMobil could be concluded for 10 years, it is estimated at $1.1 billion per year, the annual volume of LNG supplies will be 2.5 million tons.

Bayraktar also announced Turkey’s plans to implement new energy projects with the Caspian countries. “New infrastructure projects that will be implemented between the countries of the Caspian region and our country will contribute to ensuring European and global energy security,” he said after signing the agreement at the Washington Center for Caspian Policy. His statements are quoted by the Star newspaper.

The minister previously spoke of Turkey’s plans to diversify its gas supplies and create a “new portfolio” of suppliers before its long-term gas supply agreements with Russia expire in 2025 and with Iran in 2026.

According to the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority, it imported 50.5 billion cubic meters in 2023. m of natural gas, of which about 30% is in the form of LNG. According to experts, in the coming years this volume will increase to 40%.
