ROMA. Scorching temperatures, tropical nights and lots of humidity and heat for at least the next ten days. It’s all the fault of theAfrican anticyclone that is settling in these hours in Italy. This is what Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist of the site www.iLMeteo.it, announces. “The peak of this heat wave – he states – is expected by Saturday 13 July, but also in the following days the Italian summer will push the accelerator to the maximum from north to south”.
The hottest temperatures will be recorded in Sardinia and Sicily with peaks of 42-43°Cup to 38-39°C also in the southern peninsula and part of the center. The situation is similar in the north where Bologna and Ferrara will be the hottest cities with temperatures around 36-37°C, while Milan could rise up to 33°C but with a humidity rate through the roof. Tropical nights will also return, with minimums above 20°C. All this will combine with high humidity levels and therefore mugginess and temperatures perceived to be even higher than what the thermometer indicates.
Campobasso, Frosinone, Latina, Perugia, Rieti, Rome and Trieste: these seven cities will be characterized by the red dot on Thursday, July 11. This is reported in the bulletin of the Ministry of Health which elaborates the forecasts for 27 Italian cities on heat waves.
For tomorrow Wednesday, July 10 no red dots are expected but orange dots in 13 Italian cities out of the 27 monitored: Bologna, BolzanoBrescia, Campobasso, Florence, Frosinone, Latina, Perugia, Pescara, Rieti, Rome, Trieste and Viterbo. Also tomorrow there are 12 Italian cities characterized by yellow dots, green dot for Cagliari and Genoa.
Thursday, July 11 nine cities with an orange stamp (Ancona, Bologna, BolzanoBrescia, Florence, Pescara, Turin, Verona and Viterbo), eight with a yellow sticker and three with a green sticker (Cagliari, Genoa and Naples).
The red dot, according to the assessment of the Ministry of Health, “indicates emergency conditions (heat wave) with possible negative effects on the health of healthy and active people and not only on subgroups at risk such as the elderly, very young children and people with chronic diseases. The longer the heat wave, the greater the expected negative effects on health”.
