All the sailors are in good health, announced the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in resignation Maria Gabriel

All the Somali pirates on the hijacked ship “Rouen” have surrendered, and the 17-member crew has been evacuated, a NATO spokesman said, quoted by Reuters, BNR reported.

The Bulgarian cargo ship “Rouen”, sailing under the Maltese flag, was hijacked in December. There are also 7 Bulgarians in the crew.

The Indian Navy intercepted the ship “Rouen” and demanded the surrender of the Somali pirates.

It was previously reported that the vessel was intercepted yesterday by an Indian warship, on which the pirates opened fire. Actions were thus taken in accordance with international law, the announcement said.

The news was also confirmed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in resignation Maria Gabriel. “Thanks to the efforts of the Indian military, the entire crew of the ship has been released,” she said and added that all sailors are in good health and efforts are currently being made for their timely return to Bulgaria.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in close cooperation with all competent institutions, the overseas representations of the Republic of Bulgaria in the region and international partners, is actively involved in the efforts to release the Bulgarian crew. Today, the Indian ambassador in Sofia was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and an additional request was made to the Indian side to assist and take all possible action to protect the life and health of the crew,” our foreign ministry added.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its immense gratitude for the assistance of the Indian side in the process of releasing the Bulgarian sailors,” added the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
