Yemen’s Houthi rebel movement Ansar Allah attacked a commercial ship and several US destroyers in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, this was stated by the military representative of the movement, Yahya Saria.

“The Yemeni Navy carried out two high-quality military operations, during which they attacked the US ship Propel Fortune with anti-ship missiles in the Gulf of Aden, and also attacked several US destroyers in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden using 37 drones,” Saria said in aired on the Houthi-owned Al Masirah TV channel.

An Ansar Allah spokesman claims that “both operations successfully achieved their objectives.” He also stressed that the Houthis will continue attacks on ships in the Red Sea until the fighting in the Gaza Strip ceases.

Earlier, the US Central Command reported that the Houthis launched two anti-ship missiles towards the Singapore cargo ship Propel Fortune, which did not reach their target. The command also reported 15 downed drones that were launched by the Houthis and “posed a direct threat to commercial vessels, US Navy and coalition ships in the region.”

Following the escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Ansar Allah movement said it would carry out attacks on Israeli territory and would not allow associated ships to pass through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait until the operation in the Palestinian enclave ceases. Since mid-November last year, the Houthis have attacked dozens of civilian ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

In response to the actions of Ansar Allah, the American authorities announced the formation of an international coalition and the preparation of Operation Prosperity Guardian to ensure freedom of navigation and protect ships in the Red Sea. On January 12, the US and British armed forces for the first time carried out massive attacks on Houthi targets in a number of cities in Yemen.
