In the third season of the series, the character of the magistrate Saverio Barone undergoes an evident transformation: fragile, tried, also overwhelmed by the feeling of fear

Faced with the return of the “Hunter”, alias Saverio Barone, the character inspired by the autobiographical stories of the life of the magistrate Alfonso Sabella, the first obvious turning point is represented by the transformation of the character: so resolute and courageous in the first two seasons, in this third act immediately appears fragile, uncertain, he too overwhelmed by the feeling of fear. The Rai2 series starts from the obsession of Barone (Francesco Montanari) for the criminals who bloody and dominate Sicily, in a constant and exhausting war of nerves, of position, a game of chess that spares no wits and violence. The protagonist is caught between the will of the boss Vito Vitale to eliminate him and the return of Aglieri and Provenzano; Barone appears tried, wounded, consumed by work and by the mission to the point of being transferred (in the second episode) to an old hotel in Trentino for a stay with his daughter.

The change of locations and settings is the other big news of the third season: much of the shooting took place in Sardinia and then returned to dark and ghostly Sicily, the scene of a noir in the wake of the now consolidated tradition of the “irregular” detective story of the second public service channel. The screenplay by Marcello Izzo and Silvia Ebreul is delicate and sharp at the same time, it knows how to sink into the anguish of the protagonist, in what appears to all intents and purposes a descent into hell necessary to reconsider choices and actions; the care of the dialogues as well as the profiles of the characters – including the new entry represented by the new colleague Paola Romano (Linda Caridi) – returns a less Manichaean picture of the clash between crime and justice, far from the classic stereotypes of good and evil. No discount to crime, but the will to understand and tell ancient and complex dynamics.
