The increase in the price of electricity will complicate the already socially difficult living conditions of the majority of RA citizens and will become a new reason for the deepening of impoverishment, Karen Chilingaryan, the president of “Consumer’s Advice” NGO, said in a conversation with the Aysor.am reporter.
According to him, if only electricity would become more expensive, it would be possible to put up with it in a way, but against the background of widespread price increases, the price of electricity additionally hits the consumers’ pockets.
“The most vulnerable class suffers, whose quality of life will inevitably fall. If price increases continue at the same pace, the poverty threshold of the national population will increase.
It is true that there are price increases all over the world, but parallel to the price increases, salaries, pensions and allowances also increase, but here in Armenia, this is not the case. Salaries are raised here only for a small part,” said Karen Chilingaryan.
According to the chairman of the “Consumer Advice” NGO, the increase in the price of electricity will be the reason for chain price increases, starting with basic food and other products, and ending with gas.
Let’s remind that the weighted average electricity tariff in Armenia will increase by 4.7 drams from February 1, 2022. for socially disadvantaged families, however, the existing tariffs will be maintained. The Public Services Regulatory Commission adopted the relevant decision at the December 29 session.
