The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has insisted this Sunday that the international community does not pay enough attention to the “Russian threat” on the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant.
“Unfortunately, the world’s attention to the existing Russian threat at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is still insufficient. Reactions to the Russian destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant and the deliberate attempt of Russian terrorists to attack the dam of another reservoir at Krivoy Rog were insufficient”declared the Ukrainian president during a speech.
“I have shared with our partners the information that we have, the information from our Intelligence, about the Russian plan to mine the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, which has obviously been approved for terrorists. We must take very specific measures, all together in the world, to prevent any radiation accident.”has added.
Last week the Ukrainian president reported on an alleged Russian plan to provoke a nuclear incident and release radiation from the Zaporizhia power plant.
Besides, Zelensky has assured that the longer the Russian aggression lasts, the more it will degrade the country itself.in reference to the rebellion of the Wagner Group mercenary organization, led by its leader, Yevgeni Prigozhin, who will finally leave for Belarus without being charged after stopping the advance towards Moscow.
“One of the manifestations of this degradation is that Russian aggression is gradually returning to its home port. In our conversations with the leaders, we have exchanged our assessments of what is happening in Russia. We see the situation in the same way and we know how to respond,” Zelensky said.
Ukrainian peace plan
The president highlighted the meeting in Copenhagen (Denmark) between political advisers from Turkey, India, Japan, South Africa, Ukraine and the European Union in which the peace plan proposed by the Ukrainian side was discussed.
“We are presenting the implementation of the peace formula, and for this we involve the widest possible range of partners. Relations with the European Union remain a top priority, and every week we lay the groundwork for full-fledged membership,” she said.
Zelenski presented months ago a peace formula based on ten points and which included respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, returning to the international borders recognized before the Russian annexation of Crimea. It also pointed to certain security guarantees.
NATO summit
“Just 15 days from the NATO Summit in Vilnius, we are doing everything we can to ensure that the summit has real content. (…) Positive decisions for Ukraine in Vilnius are the only possible positive decisions for our common security in Europe and in the Alliance as a whole,” Zelensky said.
