The Press Secretary of the Investigative Committee, Gor Abrahamyan, on his Facebook page, referred to the case of the kidnapping of Narine Hayrapetyan, a member of the “Mother Armenia” faction of the Yerevan Council of Elders, and wrote:
“Considering the various speculations and unnecessary manifestations of politicization regarding the apparent kidnapping of Narine Hayrapetyan, I consider it necessary to dwell on some circumstances, promising to publish more detailed information after the proceedings are completed and the final legal assessments are made.
Thus, the RA Investigative Committee in 2024 On January 17, the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs received Narine Hayrapetyan’s report from the Police about her kidnapping by a group of people on January 15. Also, a protocol prepared by the Police was received, according to which N. Hayrapetyan stated that no one kidnapped him, and he made the announcement about the kidnapping for political reasons.
On the basis of the report and received documents, criminal proceedings were initiated in the RA Investigative Committee in accordance with Article 191, Part 2, Clause 5 of the RA Criminal Code regarding the case of abduction of a person by a group of persons.
With the multi-faceted preliminary investigation, all hypotheses, including kidnapping, are the subject of investigation. And in order to find out the circumstances, all necessary, urgent administrative and investigative actions are being carried out.
It should be emphasized that several investigative activities were carried out with the participation of the victim Narine Hayrapetyan, the entire proceedings of which were video-recorded in accordance with the established procedure. In addition, the victim also claimed in his testimony that he was not kidnapped.
Nevertheless, the body conducting the proceedings suggested to him that if pressure is applied to him, any of the special protection measures may be applied to him according to the decision of the body conducting the proceedings. The latter, however, again denied the circumstance of pressure and refused the proposed measure of special protection against him.
The investigation is ongoing.”
