Mexico Invites Putin to Inauguration, Claims Diplomatic Practice
In the midst of controversy surrounding the invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin at his inauguration, Claudia Sheinbaum, the future president of Mexico, clarified that the document sent was a diplomatic note inviting all countries with which Mexico has relations.
During a press conference following meetings with governors, Sheinbaum emphasized that the same document was extended to all governments as is customary practice when renewing the government. This action reflects the country’s executive power.
Juan Ramon de la Fuente, the appointed secretary of Foreign Relations, elaborated on the process, stating that the practice involves sending a diplomatic note to all countries with which one has relations and observing their responses to determine which leaders will attend.
“What is happening is that Mexico informs the world that on October 1st there will be a ceremony for the change of command in the Executive Branch of the country and the person who takes over is Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo,” De la Fuente explained.
He added that there is great anticipation surrounding her presidency, which was widely reported worldwide. While the attendance of other leaders is not yet confirmed, De la Fuente expressed hope that a significant number of female leaders will participate.
The foreign minister emphasized that the Mexican government has not set a deadline for receiving responses from other countries, but that the reactions will be evaluated in order of arrival.
