The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced today (Tuesday) the death of Iran’s ambassador to Yemen, Hassan Irlo, following a complication of corona disease.

An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said the Iranian ambassador was infected during his mission in Yemen. Hassan Irlo was a member of the Revolutionary Guards, and was sent to Yemen about a year and a half ago.

The Iranian spokesman noted that the senior returned to medical treatment only after late cooperation with several countries. In doing so, the speaker hinted at a possible delay in Saudi Arabia, imposing an air blockade on Yemen. He claimed that although the Iranian official had undergone all the necessary medical treatment, he died this morning.

Against this background, the Houthi militia spokesman Muhammad ‘Abd al-Salam expressed condolences on the death of senior Iranian Irlo. According to a publication in the AP news agency, the senior Iranian was flown to treat Iran after mediation by Iraq and Oman.

Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Houthis had asked Saudi Arabia to allow the Iranian envoy to return to his country. According to the publication, the request was interpreted as a tension between Iran and the militia. Meanwhile, in recent weeks the Saudi coalition has stepped up its attacks in the Houthi-controlled city of Sanaa.
