/ The Iraqi National Olympic Committee commented; On Wednesday, on the statements of the boxer’s father, Youssef Al-Majidi, indicating that Al-Majidi’s apology for representing his country was “unacceptable justifications.”

The committee’s media director, Hussein Ali Hussein, said in a statement received by Agency, “The committee is keen, seriously, to embrace Iraqi sports talents and create ways for them to excel in various sports, and this is what is happening with the rising Iraqi boxer Youssef Al Majidi.”

He added, “The Olympic Committee expresses its astonishment at what was published by the boxer’s father, Al Majdi, who manages his business, and the businesses of his other two sons, in the American professional boxing space,” noting that “the Olympic Committee had provided additional facilities to Youssef’s brother, who also practices boxing.”

Ali continued, “The General Secretariat, represented by the Secretary, had included the young boxer in the Olympic sponsorship program for preparing athletes to participate in the next Olympic Games, Paris 2024. It had also included him in many foreign training camps and provided him with all financial and administrative facilities regarding his travel tickets, residence, and entry visas for many.” Countries in which he trained and participated in official tournaments that were held.

Ali Ban stated, “The Olympic Committee had sought to include Al-Majidi in the recent Asian Games competitions in Hanzo, but he apologized for that, citing stress and preparing for self-training that he conducted himself, after his performance and results declined in his participation in the recent Arab Games that were held in Algeria.”

He pointed out, “Al-Majidi’s apology for representing his country cannot be accepted with justifications due to travel distances and fatigue, because they are constants that existed and are not new to be presented today, and that the Olympic Committee embraces Iraqi youth wherever they live, but it is not responsible for the distance or proximity of their places of residence, and we have the football players, and their many participations.” Their training camps and the gatherings held by the Olympic and national teams are the best metaphor we can offer to our young boxer, and to his manager, his father.”

The Director of Media of the Olympic Committee concluded his speech with the Olympic Committee’s keenness for boxer Youssef Al-Majidi to continue the long-term training curriculum prepared by the General Secretariat and the staff of the Technical Committee to prepare him, and to regain his confidence in himself and his fans and followers.
