/ Israeli media reported, on Friday, that the Egyptian army had intensified the presence of its forces along the “Philadelphia” (Salah al-Din) axis, adjacent to the border with the Gaza Strip, during the recent period.

The Israeli news site Bhol, affiliated with the extreme right in Israel, according to what was published by the “Russia Today” website, said that these actions come in light of Israeli pressure through the Americans to enable the Israeli army to control this axis, despite reports that circulated a few days ago that Egypt rejected the proposal. Israel, with Tel Aviv’s supervision of the buffer zone on the Gaza border.

According to reports reported by the Hebrew media, the Egyptian army began implementing new security operations on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, which included air sorties to the area, in coordination with the Israeli side to ensure that no military activity occurred in the area.

These measures come in light of Israeli pressure on Egypt through the Americans, with the aim of imposing a new security agreement on the Philadelphia axis, which would impose Israeli control there, which Cairo opposes.

The website indicated that Egypt reached an understanding with the armed organizations in Gaza regarding the necessity of keeping the Philadelphia axis free of combat activities, in order to prevent Israeli attempts to reach the place.

A few days ago, Egypt was reported to have rejected Israel’s proposal to increase Israeli supervision of the buffer zone on the Egypt-Gaza border, and is prioritizing efforts to mediate a ceasefire before post-war arrangements, three Egyptian security sources told Reuters last week.

Egypt shares a 13-kilometre border with Gaza, which is the only border that is not directly controlled by Israel.

Egypt, along with Qatar, played a leading role in the talks for a ceasefire with Gaza and reaching a new agreement with Hamas to release prisoners from both sides.
