/ The managing director of the Iraqi U-23 Olympic team, Jabbar Hashem, confirmed on Sunday the approval of a number of foreign clubs that include a number of Olympic team players, while he is awaiting the approval of local clubs to offload their players.

Hashem revealed to Agency that six professional players in foreign leagues had their decisions decided after their clubs agreed to join the Iraqi Olympic team and represent it in the AFC U-23 Championship that qualifies for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

He continued, “We have guaranteed the presence of six professionals in the Olympic ranks in the Egyptian qualifying tournament, and they are: Ali Al-Moussawi, a professional in the Danish club Copenhagen, Bland Azad Omar, a professional in the Dutch club De Graafschap, Youssef Al-Imam, a professional in the Malmö club and loaned to the Swedish club Bey Olympique, and Roman Dolce, the professional.” In the German club Schalke, Montazer Mohammad, a professional in the Iranian Esteghlal club, and Amin Hamoui, a professional in the Helsingborg club.

He pointed out that two important professional players have not been decided, namely Muntazar Majed, a professional with the Swedish club Hammarby. We sent an invitation to his club and we have not received a response yet. As for the German Eintracht club player Youssef Al-Amin, his club refused to release the player because the tournament is being held outside the days of FIFA.

Hashem added, “We have not received the approval of our local clubs to officially release their players, and the picture is still blurry until now,” indicating that we hope that our clubs will cooperate and agree to release their players to the national team during the championship competitions, as it is our national mission and achieving good results in Asian competitions qualifies us for Paris.

He explained that the clubs are not obligated to release their players because the tournament falls outside the days of FIFA, but the national mission requires all our clubs to cooperate and release players to ensure the success of our Olympic team’s participation in the Asian Championship qualifying for Paris 2024.
